When going on a short trip or a long vacation, it is important to prepare. This also applies when you take your dog with you. Here are some helpful tips for preparation:
Airplane Ride Preparation Instructions:
1.Comfort Item: Give your dog something you’ve worn. The scent from your clothing will help to comfort them during the flight if you are separated.
2.Check beforehand the place you’re staying is pet friendly. Avoid unpleasant surprises by asking the hotel if any special accommodations are necessary and the price.
3.Complete Dog shots. Many places require proof so make sure your dog is up to date with their shots.
4.Microchips are very important to have done when you are going to a strange place. It is almost painless for your dog and contains vital information to find your dog if they become lost.
5.No food should be given to your dog 6 hours prior to the flight. Variation in cabin pressure may cause them to get a stomach ache so be sure to give them water before boarding.
6.Tranquilizers shouldn’t be used on your dog before the flight. There is no telling if they will get a bad reaction so a better solution is to give your dog a toy to play with instead.
Car Ride Preparation Instructions:
1.Make sure your dog is secure in their seat so not to be distracting. Many people don’t like confining their dog when riding in a car but in doing so, you risk causing an accident. Dogs have the tendency to move around a lot and are especially determined to stick their heads out as far as possible from the window.
2.Use a Dog Car seat, seat belt or put them in the back with a barrier or crate. Sure your dog is fun and enjoyable, but it is important that they cannot distract you from driving.
